Exilean Original Crisis
Tess (Wilcoxson) Nelson was born and raised in San Diego, California, where she began piano lessons at the age of eight and guitar at the age of twelve. She was the youngest member of the Folk Mass Group at her local parish and attended San Diego Junior Theatre. During her college years she dabbled in songwriting, club gigs and garage band antics but music took a back seat upon her graduation from the University of California, San Diego with a degree in Biology. In 1998, a few years after the birth of her third child, Tess bought a new guitar, dusted off the piano, signed up for voice lessons and returned to her local parish to join the choir. Since that time she has had the pleasure of serving in several local churches as cantor, instrumentalist and music director. Her classical vocal training provides a solid base for the folk roots to which she returns in her all original CD, Exile...an original crisis. Spiritual in inspiration but secular in nature this collection of eleven songs features the talents of some very gifted and accomplished local musicians both established and up and coming. Tess is married to Mark Nelson; they reside in San Diego with their three children and black Lab, Mae.
