Lost in Blue
Who are the Texettes? We are an Adelaide (South Australia) based original acoustic music trio. There\'s Terry Bradford (songwriter/acoustic guitar/ vocalist), Helen Ellis (vocalist/songwriter) and Dale (Dixie) Ackland (chromatic harp/vocalist). Interestingly we are often asked if we are a new band, which I guess we are. For 9 years we have been performing in local live music venues with a couple of changes to the original 5 piece line up during that time. Terry and I have been performing as a duo since March 2005. We'd often ask Dixie to come play with us, because he would add a whole new texture with the chromatic harp. Dixie thinks "the Texettes rock!!". We are very happy with the new album "Lost in Blue" as we think it reflects what we the Texettes are trying to achieve - music for those who care to listen. At one level you know when things are working and what you can do to improve, so that has been our focus for the last 3 years. It's natural to hope that people will like what we are doing, but having said that, it doesn't mean that we expect anything to happen, we sing and perform just 'cause we love doing it! So what is the Texettes sound? Quite simply, it's original and it crosses elements of country, folk, pop, rock, blues and jazz. The Texettes music has been described as having "a great sound", "unique", "refreshing", as having "great harmonies" and "heart warming" lyrics. What have the Texettes been up to? We attended our first country music festival at the "Top of the Gulf" Port Augusta mid 2008. We went with no expectation other than to enter the talent quests, with the intent merely of developing professionally with live performances before a new audience. We were overwhelmed with the results. The Texettes Trio won the Open Band; Terry and I won the Open Duet; I came 2nd in the Female Vocal; Terry came 3rd in the Open Gospel; Dixie won the Open Instrumental. I very proudly accepted the trophy for first place in the Golden Oldie section. Encouraged by the warm reception at Pt. Augusta, we headed up to the Barmera Country Music Festival, where we won both the Country Rock and the Band sections. Terry and I won the Duo section and Terry picked up 2nd prize in both the Songwriter and Gospel sections. Where to next? One of the unexpected outcomes from these attendances has been the invitation for both Terry and I to participate in the SACCM's Champion of Champions event on July 19th. I speak for both of us when I say that we feel that this is an honor indeed! WOOHOO!
