Product Notes

Bring Us Meat is the full length debut by Denver's Thank God for Astronauts. More than three years in the making, and following a string of well received seven inch singles, Bring Us Meat is a collection of catchy, lo-fi indie jewels. 11 tracks of fuzzed-out,guitar-driven, neo-classics, inspired by all the best stuff from Television to Robert Pollard. Singer/guitarist Kent Phillips, bassist Steve Jones, and guitarist Al Riach joined forces in 2000, their name inspired by Kent's great-grandmother, who used to say "Thank God for Jesus, John F. Kennedy, and Astronauts." TGFA released their first vinyl singles on the Best Friends Records imprint once home to the best of the Denver indie-pop scene spawned in the wake of the Elephant 6 collective and ex-Apple In Stereo Chris McDuffie engineered those earliest recordings. Drummer Chad Peterson came on board a few years later, following the departure of former drummer and current Hot IQ, Bryan Feuchtinger (who also engineered Bring Us Meat). The band has played with everyone from Bright Eyes to Built To Spill, and have appeared at Midwest Music Summit, Athens Popfest and the South Park Music Festival. They have a song on the soundtrack for the cult classic "Tough Talk," and are also featured on the soundtrack for "Skills Like This," a Monty Miranda film currently making the festival rounds. Needlepoint Records is thrilled to present this debut from one of Denver's most beloved bands, and we hope you'll dig it. Give it a few listens and the hooks will sink in. '...hits that rare sweet spot between the sugary obviousness of most power-pop and indieland's obfuscation.'-The Pitch, Kansas City 'Singer Kent Phillips was appealingly fierce in his delivery. The music skipped happily between bright pop and indie rock. And the Astronauts, pitching it's music to a crowd of 40, was the unexpected highlight of the night.'-Ricardo Baca, The Denver Post 'Pop music fitted for the noise rock generation.'-Indieville.com 'Sounds great Al.'-Scott Minor of Sparklehorse 'In your face power chords with crafty swerving licks.'-Losingtoday.com '...the songs have such a strong memorable structure and backbone that are testament to their ability as songwriters.'-Schmat.com 'The Denver based foursome...has issued a number of laudable releases.'-Tuyet Nguyen, The Westword, Denver See them and all you'll care about is where the next glorious pop song is coming from.'-Jason Heller, The Westword, Denver.
