Live at Victoria
With the release of his fourth CD in only five years, Thorbjørn Risager can take stock of a career that in record-breaking time has brought him and his band up to the forefront on the European blues scene. Over the last few years, 38 years old Risager has established a name for himself as vocalist, guitarist and composer of international class. Nature has endowed him with an extraordinary powerful and expressive voice, and with his charismatic performance, soft hat on his head, well-played guitar over his shoulder and a top-tuned, tight band behind him, he has definitely made his mark. The style is still Rhythm'n'Blues, but as the new CD clearly demonstrates, the band competently masters a broad and varied menu of traditional Chicago blues, soul, funk and jazz along with some spicy New Orleans rhythms. Influences from some of Thorbjorn's great idols, Ray Charles and B B King, can't be dismissed, but with his unmistakable talent as composer, Risager has since the band's start in 2002 developed his very own personal and unique style. They have harvested lots of praise along their career: great international CD and concert reviews, the award "Blues Talent of the Year" at Copenhagen Blues Festival in 2005 and a Danish Music Award nomination in 2008. Their two lastest CD's have had airplay at more than 60 radio stations worldwide. All this is obliging, and with Live at Victoria the band also does it very best to live up to the high expectations. The 11 tracks of this new live CD have been hand-picked from two concert nights at Victoria in Malmö, Sweden, in October 2008. The tracks have been carefully put together, condensing the two nights into a super concert, that will capture the listener until the last note has faded out.
