Three Penny Upright-EP
Three Penny Upright . . . if you look it up, you might think these gals were suggesting something improper! Not so. Amy Amatucci & Mary Perisho took the name to evoke an earlier era- an era when pennies could buy a good time and 'upright' could mean instruments or back-alley shenanigans. Their name is proof of the humor and tongue-in-cheek attitude that permeates these ladies' songs. They take their musical cues from classic country, bluegrass, rockabilly, jazz and blend the styles with their witty, sassy, sexy, and sometimes heartbreaking lyrics. John Lanford adds stunning and complex virtuosity with his guitar and banjo, while Don Geesling holds the groove down with his swinging big, bad bass. They are joined frequently by Karen Naifeh Harmon, who fires up the melodies with her gypsy violin.
