Three Thirteen is the title of a very personal musical project. Named simply after the month and day of birth of it's creator, Mark Harrell. All of the music on SUITE FLATWATER as well as the three previous releases; 'THREE THIRTEEN', 'UPRISING', and 'SUBTLEARIUM' were written, performed, mixed and produced in his home studio. The music on SUITE FLATWATER was written as a form of homage to the rivers, marshes and coves of the Chesapeake Bay. The inspiration was provided by many kayaking trips through those quiet waters. The concept was to create a unified piece of music that expressed the variety of experiences and range of emotions associated with time spent on 'flatwater'. For this reason the individual tracks do not have specific names. They are arranged so as to move from one emotive place to another, just as a morning spent kayaking would be. This is the first CD by THREE THIRTEEN which does not incorporate any drums or percussion, and therefore has a distinctive, classical feel. When heard as a whole, as was the composer's intent, the listener of SUITE FLATWATER will move through a remarkably harmonious universe of moods and internal reflections, a place that must be heard to be seen.
