Yet Another Beat Maker
These songs are my humble attempt to play the studio as an instrument, and were recorded between late June and mid September of 2007. They were inspired by all those before me, particularly the producers of the early Dub recordings, Teo and electric Miles, the later Beatles recordings, and so on. There's also the influence of electronic and experimental music, Hip Hop beats, and the not so humble drum machine! Some of the tracks have an early industrial feel, such as Summon Some Industrial Noise, No Rush, and the beginning of Jam in the Boiler Room. The Beat Market, Jungle Walk, China Cymbals, and Lazy Caravan are more beat oriented, while Distant Trumpets, and Jam in the Boiler Room are free spirited, somewhat like a jam session. Ambient Drums, Rumble, and Distant Trumpets have an ambient feel to them. The album ends with an electronic love song, Mystic Embrace! What all of these tracks have in common are beats, and a touch of noise. The bass frequencies are strong, so you can feel them, as well as hear them. Like all recordings of this nature, watch your ears and your speakers! Track Descriptions 1. Ambient Drums starts the album out, with sounds that will swell in your head and vibrate your body! 2. The Beat Market, is where there is more than beats for sale. It's like a carnival, really dope at night! 3. Jungle Walk takes you for a walk in the electronic jungle, the urban one, up the street, and across the alley, to some cool place you've never been to! 4. China Cymbals and percussion, starts out with a somewhat faster Native American beat, and continues in a surprising way. 5. Rumble is like the rumbling of thunder before it cracks through. Or an earthquake, before it hits. It could be a subtle inner feeling or stirring, before we have a breakthrough in our life. 6. No Rush is somewhat contradictory, since it has an industrial beat, with some singing by one of the robots. Since that's not the pace of a factory, maybe this happened when they were shut down, and everybody had left for the day. 7. Summon Some Industrial Noise takes you inside a factory, to catch the beats! This was written on Labor Day, 2007. 8. Distant Trumpets is somewhat jazzy and ambient. 9. Jam in the Boiler Room is free form and loose, just like a jam session. 10. Lazy Caravan was recorded on one of those overcast days in the desert, a good day for a caravan journey, across the hot sands. 11. Mystic Embrace is about the love and the interplay that the higher beings had for us in the early stages of our evolution. It was inspired while reading the Evolution chapter in 'Occult Science' by Rudolf Steiner. Having said all of this, these are my words and images. Please let me know what yours are, and how you experience the music. ******************************************* Some people feel that you can't separate the person and the artist, so my bio follows. I started playing vinyl records at the age of 4. I played trombone in high school band and orchestra, and then studied drums and played in various bands around the Lehigh Valley area of PA. I co-produced with a friend, a jazz concert in West Park, in Allentown. When we were 21 years of age. I got to experience the tail end of the Industrial Revolution in the Lehigh Valley of PA. Now, I'm trying to re-create some of the rhythmic sounds I used to hear in the factories. Funny how it goes! Another thing that got me interested in industrial archeology was a book I read a few years back about the industrial revolution in England. Everything that happened over there happened in the area of Pennsylvania that I grew up in. That interest evolved into the archeology of the sounds of the industrial revolution, which I am still exploring. I studied some keyboard and percussion after moving to Tucson, AZ. I played percussion and drums in the local civic orchestra and in some bands composed of various members of that group. I got tired of lugging the hardware around and started studying synthesized music in the late 1990's. I got into electronic music production in 2003. My current interest is in exploring the multi-faceted aspects of sound and music. I came up with the name, Yet Another Beat Maker. When I joined MySpace, and found thousands of beat makers out there. Like one of my friends on MySpace said, You can never have enough beats! Then there's Ya BOOM! The Big Bang! In the Beginning was the Word, The Logos, the Sound! And the Beat still goes on, and on, and on, and on! Do you hear it? Actually, a lot of people have! I'd like to give special thanks to all my friends at MySpace, and MTM Studio Net, where earlier versions of these songs were played! And to my wife Cathy - my best friend and fan!
