Lift Him Up
Tony S. Griffin started working with church choirs at a very young age. Music has always been a part of his life, as he has played many keyboard, string, percussion, and wind instruments. He continued his music experience as a music major at Furman University and obtained a Bachelor's of Music Education Degree from Winthrop University (Rock Hill, SC) and Master's Degree in Music Education from Converse College (Spartanburg, SC). It was during his college years that he became a member of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and has been a member since 1984. He currently serves as Choir Director and Assistant Chapter Representative for the Upstate SC Chapter of the GMWA. As a member he has composed and recorded songs for the Youth Mass Choir of the GMWA and the Men of Promise of the GMWA. He has also had several of his original selections performed at the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Tony has produced several recording projects - five of which feature his church choir, The Bethlehem Young Adult Choir. Their recording, "WayMaker" has blessed souls across the country and has received major airplay on many radio stations across the country. Their latest CD/DVD recording is entitled "Lift Him Up" is an example of the reputable quality of this dynamic ministry. He has also recorded with his community choir, The Golden Strip Community Choir, Furman University Bands, and assisted on other projects. Tony has spent many years as a music teacher/choral director, choir director, composer/arranger, musician, singer, producer, and workshop clinician. Tony's past career paths have included an educator with the Greenville County School District, where he served as a teacher, choral director and associate choir director for the Greenville County Singing Christmas Tree. He is the former owner of the PIP Music Academy, Information Management Administrator and Team Lead for General Electric Company and Student Development Director at Bethlehem Baptist Church. He is currently: • Minister of Music at Bethlehem Baptist Church (since 1995) in Simpsonville, SC where Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin is the pastor. As Minister of Music he leads a music ministry with over a dozen musicians, six (6) choirs, and three (3) Praise Teams. There he also directs the Young Adult Choir. • Director of the Golden Strip Community Choir (since 1994). • Owner of PIP & TG Enterprises, a music publishing company where he publishes original songs, conducts workshops, and scores music. Under his leadership, his choirs have opened for artists such as Shirley Caesar, Donnie McClurkin, John P. Kee, The Canton Spirituals, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, Vickie Winans and many others. One of his groups has also backed up for Reba McIntyre in concert. They have also been featured in City and County Festivals, Fashion Shows, dramatic productions, and other special events and have traveled around the country, as far as Las Vegas, Nevada and Dallas, Texas ministering in concerts and other services.
