Everything You Thought You Knew
In the summer of 2002 vocalist Zack Pearson joined the remaining members of the Tacoma metal band SBI (Surrounded By Idiots) which consisted of Tracey Beardsley (guitar), James Duterrow (bass guitar), and Jerod Wallace (drums). Together they formed Utterance. James and Tracey have been playing together for more than ten years. During the search for the right musicians for the job, they stumbled upon Jerod Wallace, which brought together the musical foundation that Utterance is known best for. A few short years later, Zack Pearson was added to the band, bringing the voice of Utterance. And since 2002 Utterance has gone leaps and bounds to make sure that the Pacific Northwest knows that Tacoma will be heard. In December of 2006 Dan Hatfield stepped up to play bass. Dan brings Everything that Utterance has had in the past, plus something new to take the band even further. With influences like Slayer, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Deftones, Suicidal Tendencies, Faith No more, and Helmet, Utterance strives to create a sound that will impress their idols. Utterance takes groove, and ambiance, and mixes it all together with raw aggression. Take heavy, sometimes funky bass playing by Dan; crushing, eary guitar playing from Tracey; soulful, gut-wrenching screams and spoken word from Zack, and back it all up with the even tempo, sometimes sporadic and jazzy drumming of Jerod you might be able to picture the sound that Utterance has created. In the last three years Utterance has accomplished many goals. They were featured on the Unleash the Freaks Motor Cross Tour, sold 1000 copies of there debut independently released CD, received a one year distribution deal with Hawino Records, were nominated for the Best Heavy Metal Hard Rock Act for the 2005 Seattle Weekly Music awards, have been played repeatedly on KFNK 104.9FMs Garage Monkey, and were even asked to guest host the show and feature songs off their new album Everything You Thought You Knew they have also had the privilege of playing at some of Seattle and Tacoma..s bigger venues like, The Showbox, Pheonix Underground, Hells Kitchen, El Corozon (formerly The Graceland), and Cheney Stadium. Utterance has also received sponsorship from Wired Energy drink, Dirtbag clothing, and just recently Jerod Wallace received an endorsement through Peace Drums. Utterance is on a mission to change not just the face of heavy metal, but rock music as a whole. Utterance wishes to achieve nation and international success, and show the world that Tacoma, Washington has a place on the map of Rock and Roll. With the release of their 2005 album, Everything You Thought You Knew Utterance is hoping to take the next step in their musical career. This summer they will be touring the West Coast and Pacific Northwest to increase their fan base and further their mission to make heavy metal history. We are currently looking for a distribution or record deal for A finished CD.
