Sailing on a Marsipus
'Sailing on a marsipus' is Vagelis Stefanopoulos debut album with his trio, Petros Varthakouris on bass and Yiannis Angelopoulos on drums. As the title suggests the theme of this compilation of compositions is a boat trip as experienced by an infant on a marsipus (sling carrier). The journey begins in Cape Town across the open sea where the listener meets magical sea creatures moving through a storm and watching a lunar eclipse on the deck. The infant traveler continues to witness an Afro-Cuban sancteria devoted to Saint Oduduah. The next scene is North Carolina where the baby falls asleep by the sweet sounds of a lullaby. Next stop is New York with Miles Davis classic 'Milestones' and finally the end of the album is the bustling destination port. On the album you can also hear New York vocalist Jd Walter singing a moody arrangement of 'Summertime'. Recorded by George Karyotis at Sierra studios Mixed by Anastasios C.
