Vickie Smith delights audiences with an upbeat, feel-good collection of new and old jazz/swing tunes. The elegant songbird displays a lush lower register and scores on high notes with an exciting 2 ½ octave range. Those eager for good music and fun will feel right at home with her charming, outgoing personality. Vickie has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, Joe Franklin's radio show Memory Lane, and New Jersey's Talking w/ Lee Leonard. She has performed with prominent musicians such as Bucky Pizzarelli, Paul Meyers, Joe Cocuzzo, Lenny Argese, and The Somers Dream Orchestra. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, raised in Brooklyn, New York and now living in Bloomfield, NJ, Vickie is used to adapting to new surroundings. In February of 2001, after performing with various musicians she hand-picked a pianist, bassist, and drummer to form Cool Blue Central, her own jazz trio. Vickie's musical talents were nourished from birth. At the age of 3 she jumped up on stage during a rehearsal of her father's band, grabbed a mike and started to sing. Her more formal musical training began in grade school, performing in Carmen, with the Brooklyn Opera Company. In Junior High, Vickie played both the piano and the 1st violin. She studied classical voice training withSandra Alesi, a co-founder of the Brooklyn Opera Company. Fond memories of her performances with the Brooklyn Borowide Orchestra recently encouraged Vickie to study violin once again.
