Product Notes

"Tales to Tell" is the latest CD by New York singer/songwriter James O'Malley. His third release, "Tales to Tell" is a collection of twelve songs in the lyrical acoustic style that has made James a favorite of the Northeast folk music community. James accompanies himself on acoustic guitar on all of the selections and is complimented by a small ensemble of musicians who add a sensitive embellishment to James' story songs and captivating lyrics. From the opening chords of the lively "Is That The Sun?" to the sing along chorus of "Song for Pete Seeger" that open the CD, "Tales To Tell" offers the most memorable collection of James O'Malley tunes to date. His "Wrecking Ball" and "Give A Broken Heart A Break" share a contemporary country influence while his "There Was A Girl", Hell Hath No Fury" and "Allen Jones" are in the signature story telling style that helped make James' two previous releases so popular. His unique interpretation of the Bob Dylan classic, "Just Like A Woman" features James' outstanding guitar work, which also enlivens the whimsical "Crickets", where James' guitar mimics the theme of the song. The intimacy of James O'Malley's vocal style is at it's best in his two compositions, "Open a Window" and the haunting "The Night You Fell In Love." Tales To Tell was produced by Joe Porcelli & James O'Malley, recorded and mastered at Morningstar Studios in Ambler, PA, and features James O'Malley on 6 & 12 string guitar, Joe Porcelli on 6 & 12 string guitar, mandolin, dobro & banjo, John Porcelli on bass guitar, Dave Schonauer on organ and synthesizer, Corrin Huddleston on harmonicas and Cheryl Prashker on percussion. 2007 --- Finalist in the Plowshares Song Contest! 2006 --- Finalist in the Plowshares Song Contest! 2005--- (WFUV-FM) John Platt's choice as 'one of the new voices for the new year'. James O'Malley is a wonderful performer who just happens to be 'a warm and gifted songwriter'. An artist who gently reaches out and touches each one of us with his songs, where we live,.... in our hearts. Sing Out! : 'James O'Malley casts his singer-songwriter net wider than than your average songsmith' Music Matters Review- 'There is real eloquence here.......a gifted songwriter poised at the threshold of a loftier position in the ranks of American singer-songwriters.' He now has three CDs produced on Gable Wing and Arts & Medial labels and has appeared with Tracy Grammer, Richard Shindell, Lucy Kaplansky, Janis Ian, Iain Matthews, Lynn Miles, Cheryl Wheeler, Tom Pacheco, Caroline Herring, Buddy Mondlock, Louise Taylor, Chuck Pyle, Jack Williams, along with many other gifted artists. It's simple eloquence continues to ring true' --WFUV-FM John Platt -- Huntington Folk Music Society- '...His sweet voice and gentle finger style on the guitar enthralls the most jaded listener. The warm and intimate melodies that he crafts beautifully frame the direct and honest stories that he tells...' Affiliated with BMI and a member of the Folk Alliance of North America.
